How fintech nerds have fun with card design using cardholder names
Original tweet thread:
Unrolled post:
I've seen a ton of great threads covering fintech trends and product innovation lately.
This is not that thread.
Instead, I went down a rabbit hole to find what fintechs and FIs use as the default cardholder name on their cards.
Erase the Sunday Scaries with this 🧵
I first thought about this because I remembered that at Chime, we used a totally random default cardholder name. Turns out, we're not alone:
💸 US Challenger Banks 💸
"Caty Mitchell" - Chime
"Alex Rams" - Point
"Joshua Miller" - Varo
"Your Name Here" - Current*
*Try harder
🏦Big Banks 🏦
If there's one thing challengers DID learn from incumbents (@AlexH_Johnson - won't put Chime in this bucket!), it's that random cardholder names are fun:
"D. Barrett" - Chase
"Henry Wells" - Wells Fargo
"Linda Walker" - Citi
"Chris L. Martin" - Bank of America
💳Payment Networks 💳
I'm sure the payment networks tried to one up banks, because they've got some gems:
"Cindy Campell" - PayPal
"Lee M. Cardholder" - Mastercard
"C.F. Frost" - American Express
"Cardholder Name" - Green Dot*
*They have a cash deposit network so they fit!
💶International challengers 💶
The international fintechs probably wanted to join in on the fun that US challengers were having:
"Gabriela Lima" - Nubank
"Monzo Bank" - Monzo
"A Cardholder" - Monese*
"Card Holder" - Revolut*
*Not the most innovative feature
🪙 Crypto companies 🪙
And of course, the crypto firms wanted to contribute in the only way they know how:
"Satoshi Nakamoto" - Coinbase
"Satoshi Nakamoto" - Binance
"Satoshi Nakamoto" - WireX
"Satoshi Nakamoto" - BitPay
