It's Sunday & I should be writing an over-engineered fintech 🧵. But it's almost the season 3 finale of @succession & I can't focus. So what better way to kill those Sunday Scaries and keep my 🧵 quota than your favorite fintechs as Succession characters?
Read on!
@Square is Kendall.
They've had some revelations that changed the playing field (Afterpay), but not clear they've been able to deliver on big promises yet. They might have thrown a big party with some rebranding (Block) but is it enough?
@Coinbase is Shiv.
They're still figuring out what side they'll be on (regulators or cryptos). They were publicly humiliated before & wrote their own scathing response. Still second guessed even after wins (IPO), but they'll find a way to be heard.
@Affirm is Roman.
They nearly blew up by tying fate to an almost rocket ship (Peloton) but they've been hustling on some new partnerships (Amazon) to get some respect. They just want to impress PayPal w/ their SuperApp to get the love they deserve.
@Robinhood is Tom.
They were the scapegoat for a game everyone else was playing (PFOF) & they seemed to have to shoulder the burden even if it destroyed them. They might have escaped real legal peril but it doesn't seem to be making them any happier.
@Marqeta is Greg.
They do a bit of everything & play all sides. They look like the clueless nice guy but have an agenda & the big players want them in the room. It might seem like they're out of their league but still keep their head above water.
@SoFi is Connor.
They may be more flash than substance but they've been here long enough to know their angle. They overspent on a branding opportunity (SoFi Stadium), but they have hidden gems (Galileo) for leverage as they bide their time.
And @PayPal is Logan Roy.
The age is starting to show & there's some controversy in the air. They may admit they need a slick deal or two (Paidy) to keep them relevant.
It may seem like their time is up but they'll reinvent if it keeps them on top.
